Walk in the light
I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:5
For at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light Ephesians 5:8
This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 1 John 1:5
To open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.’ Acts 26:18
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. 1 John 1:7
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Psalm 119:105
We all claim to know that this world is a dark place, considering the violence, pain, fear, injustice that is displayed every day right in front of us. It is so easy to claim this as darkness, even those living within these shadows will call out how dark these things are. Yet there is more to the dark than we care to admit, lest we cast ourselves into the likes.
There are many choices we make every day. Some we consider, some are unconscious choices made without thinking. Lets face it, our character and thus our choices are made through our experiences, our training, our education, our relationships. Even when they are unconscious choices, our brains decide based on who we are because of these influences in our lives.
When troubles come, and surely they have, do and will, we often struggle to choose how to soften the blow, avoid completely, or overcome these “dark moments”.
We try to consider everything we’ve experienced, everything we have learned to come through this struggle on our own. We will prove to everyone, and to ourselves that we are capable, we are strong. Yet we don’t know which way to turn. We falter, and stumble in the darkness.
We can turn to God in these moments, Surely He will help, He will never leave or forsake us.
But hear me please…God loves you, He truly loves you so much He would send His Son to die for you! But you HAVE TO KNOW that God wants you to KNOW HIM. He wants you to bring Him glory, and we don’t glorify God if we only call on Him when we are in darkness. He will never leave us or forsake us, but we leave and forsake Him daily. When we make choices based on what the world has taught us, when we walk our lives out in pursuit of our desires, our “wants” we are glorifying ourselves, not God. We are leaving Him.
Dyeing to self, means putting our wants and desires to death. It means making God’s will our will. It doesn’t mean putting God’s will first, it means God’s will is the only will we have.
Jesus taught that “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them, and I will raise them up at the last day.”
Saying you believe in God, and KNOWING AND LOVING GOD, are two different things. If you truly KNOW God, INTIMATELY know him, your wants and desires become meaningless to you. As Paul once said “Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For His sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith” Phillipeans 3:8-10
My prayer for all of us; is that we ask God to draw us near. That we seek to know him, not only seek, but if there is ever one thing we desire, one thing we quest, it is to know God.
I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.
The joy and peace that will overcome you when there is a light shining in the darkness to guide your path is unmistakable. Please join me in seeking to know him more.
